Outdoor Play Area

Spending time outdoors in the early years is known to impact a child’s physical strength, coordination, and even the development of their immune system. At Santa Clara Sunshine Daycare, outdoor play provides a chance for children to develop and practice life-long skills, including problem solving, turn taking, encouragement, self-control, safe risk taking, and following the rules of a game.

Dramatic Playroom

Dramatic play is an effective activity, where children are in charge of the story and decide independently how to act it out. Using props and make-believe, they are able to deepen their understanding about the world. From whipping up a batch of cookies to making breakfast like their parents did, the dramatic playroom is a crucial way to build on their social and communication skills, all while having fun.

Playroom

Our playrooms are the largest indoor space for exploration at our centers. This area contains our manipulatives, such as blocks, Legos and puzzles. With these items, the children are able to work independently or in small groups to build castles and towers, garages to hold their race cars, or barns and pens to house their favorite animals. But through all of this play, they are also improving their hand-eye coordination, fine motor dexterity, and language skills.

Multi-purpose Room

Our multi-purpose room serves as an area for our children to listen, talk and share via daily, structured interactions. This can be through a variety of ways, including circle time. At our centers, once all of the children have arrived, we take some time to talk about our mornings and our plan for the day. In addition to circle time, we also use the space to work on learning things like color and shape recognition, numbers and instilling a love for words through reading.
